There isn't a fair flat price for tree removal, and anyone who gives you one over the phone without seeing the tree is guessing. Most residential jobs on the Coast land somewhere between a few hundred dollars for a small tree in an open yard and several thousand for a big gum leaning over a house. Here's what moves the number.
Height and spread
A taller tree with a wider canopy takes more climbing, more cuts and more rigging. It also produces more timber and green waste to deal with.
What's underneath
A tree in an open paddock can sometimes be felled in one piece. A tree over a roof, pool, power line or the neighbour's shed has to come down in small sections, each one lowered on a rope. That's slower and takes a bigger crew.
Access
If the chipper and truck can reach the tree, the job moves quickly. If everything has to be carried down steep stairs or through a narrow side gate, labour goes up. Many blocks in Killcare, Gosford and Terrigal fall into this group.
Condition of the tree
Dead or decayed trees can be more dangerous to climb. Sometimes we need different rigging methods or an elevated work platform.
Stump grinding and clean-up
Grinding the stump on the same visit usually costs less than coming back. Removing all timber costs more than leaving firewood or mulch on site.
Approvals and reports
If council needs an arborist report, that's a separate fee. We'll tell you up front whether you need one.
Comparing quotes fairly
Check that each quote includes the same things: stump grinding, waste removal, insurance and who's responsible for approvals. Ask whether the business carries public liability insurance. We carry $10 million, and we're happy to show the certificate.
